Plush Dog Toys: Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Plush dog toys are a favorite among many dogs, mine included. He doesn't care what it looks like, because it won't look the same for long. You see, my dog's plush dog toys have a life expectancy of about 36 hours. During this time, he methodically does away with the toy. He starts with anything attached to the toy, such as eyes, nose, bows, etc. He takes the time to remove them one by one and chews them into sharp shreds, which he hides in the most unsuspecting places on the shag carpet. He then takes advantage of the tiny holes where the eyes and nose used to be and opens them just large enough to fit in his snout. Once this chore is completed, he has free reign on the stuffing, aka snow. When all is done, what is left is a shell of a plush toy and stuffing completely covering the floor. It looks like a winter snow storm has passed right through the house.

Plush dog toys can be found at any kind of retail store. You can pick one up at the pet store, of course. You can find plush dog toys at grocery stores, drug stores, department stores, and even at many gas station mini-marts. These temporary toys range in cost from about $4 to $40 at some specialty pet stores. The price can also be dependent on the size of the toy and its features.

Features of plush dog toys can vary greatly. Some toys will squeak when they are squeezed. Others might make funny noises when they are shaken up or when they hit the ground. Some toys are stretchy, and contract when you let go. These are fun when you want to give your rambunctious pooch a soft pop in the nose. Some plush dog toys have ropes attached to them or hard rubber parts. The more extravagant the features, the higher the price will be.

Some retailers are much more expensive than others. If you need to save money, see what your grocery store has to offer. They tend to carry lower priced brands and off brand plush dog toys that they can offer as impulse buys for their shoppers. Let's face it, most of us don't go to the grocery to pick up plush dog toys. On the other hand, the stores that specialize in pet products, and carry a large selection of dog toys, will be more expensive. You will also find recognizable brand name plush dog toys and better quality with the more expensive brands.

Does the quality of the toy really matter? If you have a dog like mine, probably not. But, if you have a dog who shows his toys an ounce of respect, then you will probably want to spend a bit more money and get the better quality plush dog toys.
